I recently went on a bit of an unfriending rampage on Facebook, deleting hundreds of “friends” from my list. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the world’s most popular social networking tool and let me tell you — my friend purge took a serious load off.
While I like the idea of reconnecting with people from my past, staying SO connected doesn’t always feel healthy or normal. Do I really need to be friends with ex-boyfriends, childhood bullies, friends of friends of friends, and the second cousin of my former-roomate’s hairdresser?
You get the picture.
A little distance is a-ok in my book. So, if we aren’t Facebook friends anymore, don’t take it personally, because it’s not about you. I’m just closing my inner circle in a bit and sometimes a girl has to be a little cutthroat.
Anyway, my friend Deb sent me this clip the other day. It’s a mock up of what it would be like if Facebook played out in real life.
I think it pretty much sums up exactly why I got the urge to purge.
Are you burned out on Facebook? Do you unfriend? If so, under what circumstances? I’d love to know!

After the initial catch up AKA: what have you been doing for the last 20+ years e-mail and a gander at photos, I realized recently that I didn't need hundreds of Facebook friends so I, too went on an unfriending rampage. It felt good!
